The 2019 inaugural Gondwana Choirs World Choral Festival was announced today at a NSW Government House launch hosted by His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) Governor of New South Wales and Mrs Linda Hurley.
The event which will take place in Sydney from 15-21 July 2019 was unveiled by Gondwana Choirs’ Artistic Director Lyn Williams OAM . She said that the event was not only a celebration of children’s choral music, but that it was created as a marker of three decades since she founded Gondwana Choirs. “There could be no finer way to celebrate 30 years of Sydney Children’s Choir and Gondwana Choirs than to gather our choral friends from across Australia and the world. The Gondwana World Choir Festival will see hundreds young choristers unite for a remarkable week of choral singing.
Williams said that the celebration Choral music has the ability to “inspire and uplift us”. She added, “We are moved by its unique ability to communicate stories, cultures and feelings through words and music carried by the human voice. Perhaps its greatest strength lies in its power to bring people together, united in song and purpose and breathing as one.’
The seven days of the festival begin and end with Gala performances in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall. The epicentre of the Gondwana World Choral Festival will be the lauded venues of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. “We know that audiences will come from far and wide to experience the remarkable artistry of these fine choirs right here in Sydney.”
The Gondwana World Choral Festival will be made up of choirs from across Australia as well as Canada, France, Estonia, Latvia and the USA.
