Monday 15 July, 7pm
Sydney Opera House Concert Hall
The festival opens with Sounds of Australia as Gondwana Choirs launch into their 30th anniversary celebrations.
Gondwana Choirs Founder and Artistic Director, Lyn Williams AM, brings her signature flair for programming, conducting and collaborating to this exceptional performance that marks the 30th Anniversary of the Sydney Children’s Choir. The performance will include the premiere of two new works commissioned for this occasion by Gondwana Choirs from noted Australian composer Paul Stanhope and leading American composer Nico Muhly in his first Australian appearances.
Cairns-based Gondwana Indigenous Children’s Choir and their touring ensemble Marliya will join their Sydney peers to bring their rich sound and unique repertoire to Sydney once again. The concert will also feature the extraordinary sitting dances from Aceh that have been developed for stage by Lyn Williams and Suara Indonesia Dance over the past five years.
